WCW: Mindy Kaling

Mindy Kaling is our Woman Crush Wednesday, and why not her? With her own TV show entering its fourth season and another book hitting the shelves, Mindy is constantly busy, and we just can't get enough!

Mindy's professional love affair with comedy started to take shape during her internship with Late Night with Conan O'Brien during her sophomore year at Dartmouth College. Following graduation, Mindy gained popularity on television on The Office as Kelly Kapoor. In 2012, she left to star in her own series, The Mindy Project, where she portrays Mindy Lahiri, an eccentric and Nora Ephron-obessed OBGYN. Despite being cancelled by FOX, The Mindy Project has made a seamless transition to being a Hulu Original, and is being deemed part of the bright future of network to online transitions. Mindy assisted in writing, directing, and producing on both of these shows.

Mindy is no stranger to the big screen, either. She was most recently Disgust in Disney/Pixar's Inside Out. Other film credits include Wreck-It Ralph, No Strings Attached, The Five-Year Engagement, This is the End, and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

On top of writing for television, Mindy has also penned two books. Her first book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns), was released in 2011. The memoir was a New York Times bestseller. Her second book, Why Not Me?, was released this September. Following the style of her first memoir, it's another collection of essays chronicling the ups and downs in her life. Why Not Me? debuted at No. 1 on the Hardcover Nonfiction and Combined Print & E-Book Nonfiction lists of the New York Times, and it's still the No. 1 on their Humor list.

Mindy is incredibly outspoken on issues like body positivity, equality, women's rights, and sexism in Hollywood. In 2013, Entertainment Weekly named her one of the 50 Coolest and Most Creative Entertainers, and Time named as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World. Based on all of her accomplishments, we have to agree!
